Living with a CRF Cat
Cleo

If you've found this page, you're living with a CRF (chronic renal failure cat). Maybe your cat has just been diagnosed; maybe she's been battling this disease for a while.

If you're here, you're probably in shock and despair. You're berating yourself for not noticing the signs. One day your cat seems fine, the next she won't eat and doesn't want to be held. While CRF is ultimately a terminal disease, I want to give you hope. Most CRF cats, when diagnosed early enough, can go on to live quite some time. They have much to teach us about unconditional love, and the battle is definitely worth it.

I began a journal about my cat, Cleo, when she was diagnosed. Puss, my other cat, was diagnosed with CRF two months later. You can read through the journal to get an idea of what you might expect. Every cat's different, though! You can also read the overview to get a shorter synopsis of Cleo's battle.

I put together a short FAQ (frequently asked questions). There are definitely people who know a whole lot more about CRF than me, but I just tried to put into my own words some of the things I've learned that may be helpful to you.

I also wrote a little bit about Cleo's life, if you want to meet the cat behind the curtain, so to speak.

Cleo lost her battle with CRF (even though that's not what ultimately killed her) on April 23, 2001. If you wish, you can leave condolences. I will continue on with this site, as now it has become Puss's story.
