Pounds, that is. For all of you who've read Cleo's journal, I'm sorry for not writing in so long. But that's because it's mainly all good news. At her last Internist visit, Cleo weighed 8 pounds (she's 15 in age). That's up from a low of 5 lbs 3 oz last year. The vets continue to be amazed by Cleo, who they think look pretty good for a dead cat. So do I! Cleo has continued with the Dex. Her fluids have been decreased to every other day, about 75 ml. I haven't had her bloodwork done in a while, other than PCV which remains good (she still gets a shot of Procrit every other week). Her vomiting is almost under control. I've found that the fluids help control her vomiting. Unfortunately, Cleo has decided she no longer wants fluids. We've had some royal battles. My pet sitter was totally unable to give her fluids or her Procrit shot, which she's done in the past. My husband is helping me (which he's not too thrilled with), but he's going on a short business trip next week. I now have a cat sack and muzzle, which I hope I won't have to do. PussPuss continues to do well, with no fluids. Her bloodwork was rechecked recently, and her numbers have stayed pretty steady. Her BUN has gone up to 66, but her Creatinine is pretty steady at 4.3. She has had another UTI, but all in all she's a pretty happy cat. She's eating very well these days, too she loves Sensible Choice, which is very low in phosphorus. CRF ThoughtsThe "girls", as my petsitters call them, are doing amazingly well. So while I'll try to keep up this journal, it probably won't be on a daily basis. But always in the back of my mind is the fact that CRF is a terminal disease. Someday, all too soon, they will die. Every time Cleo doesn't rush to eat what I give her, I worry whether or not this could be the beginning of the end. I want so much for their time on this Earth to end in peace and comfort in our home, but I fear that it won't. Every night before I go to sleep, I thank God for giving me another precious day. Each day truly is a gift. I know how very lucky I am that Cleo has responded to treatment. Even as I prepared to upload this page, all of the sudden I heard gagging noises. I was sure Cleo was throwing up, which surprised me. But when I got into the kitchen, there was no toss-up. But she was making weird noises; I'm not sure what they were wheezing? A cough? Gagging? Allergy? Yet when I put down some food for her, she immediately chowed down, always a good sign. I guess I'll have to wait and see if this happens again. Never a dull moment . . . |
