Vet Questions

Cleo yumming down the Friskies

The Friskies Senior Diet was a hit. I cannot get Cleo to eat the Prescription Diet K/D, even when I mix it with something she likes. I haven't given up on trying to get her to eat it, but at this point I really feel that she needs to put back on some of the weight she's lost.

This morning she was hungry, really hungry! I've taken to feeding Puss first, because Cleo hasn't really shown much of an interest in eating first thing in the morning — and Puss is ravenous. This morning both my babies were waiting outside the bedroom door as I got up, wanting to be fed; just like old times. I took Puss into the bathroom to feed her her kibble, and Cleo actually tried to come in.

After feeding Puss, I ground up Cleo's meds and mixed them up with the Friskies. I also smushed up the Friskies, because she seemed to have a hard time eating the whole chunks. She ate everything I gave her, and ate most of the next serving, too. And she didn't even pee on the carpet (well, yet, anyway).

I need to get a refill on the Winstrol, and probably the Reglan, too, so I'll be calling the Vet today. I have a bunch of questions to ask:

  • Is it more important that she eat the K/D, or that she just put on some weight?
  • Would mashed potatoes be good for her?
  • The vet already said she didn't think Cleo would take well to sub-q's, but should we try? Would that make her feel better, prolong her life?
  • Should I get a scale so we can monitor her weight?
  • What can I do about this peeing outside the box?
  • Are the commercial foods I'm feeding her okay?
  • I know she said it was okay to use a little tuna. Is chicken preferrable to tuna?
  • Could olive oil possibly be good for her? What about the cat milk?
  • Should we be monitoring her blood pressure?
  • Would Pedialyte in her water help? How much?
  • Can I have a copy of all her records, for my own records?
  • What about Puss — should I be altering her diet?

The lunch time feeding didn't go so well. I went to Petco to pick up a litter box that isn't so deep, with the hopes of persuading her to actually use it. I also picked up some more Iams and some Science Diet Savory Chunks Senior. She doesn't like the Science Diet; wouldn't eat anything again. I was so excited when I came back later and saw that some of it was eaten — then I realized that Puss had come out of her lair, and she may have been the culprit. I just don't know who ate what. The joys of a two cat household.
