I took Cleo back to the internist today. She's thrown up every day for the last few days. I discussed with the doctor some of the things that have been suggested to me: worms, irritable bowel syndrome. I had discussed the members of the CRF list who said their cats were being treated with Tapazole for hyper-t. She basically feels that Cleo is too far gone for that; that it would do more harm than good. Besides, she won't prescribe it without a positive diagnosis. Because her bloodwork is normal, she'd have to have a radiactive iodine test which would require a trip to San Antonio and an overnight stay. I just feel that would be too traumatic for her. To diagnose IBD, you need to do a biopsy, which requires anathesia. I don't want to do that either. But the vet was willing to prescribe steroids without a positive diagnosis. She gave her a steroid shot that is supposed to last a week. She was concerned that she wouldn't get all the steroids if I gave it to her mixed in with her food. She'll see her back in a week. |
