Puss is diagnosed; Cleo is anemic

We got bad news today, totally unexpected by me. Puss is also in the beginning stages of CRF, with a BUN of 64 and a Creatinine of 4.2. I truly never suspected — at least, not until we went to the vet. Both Cleo and Puss had the same specific gravity for their urine, and I just knew that wasn't good.

I suppose that it was a good thing that Cleo got sick first. Puss won't be an easy patient, I'm sure. Cleo tolerates her fluids fairly well; I can't even imagine giving them to Puss, although I know we'll do it. Luckily, the vet wants to manage her with diet alone at this point.

With the same sort of numbers when she was diagnosed, Cleo was at the vet on an IV and so sick. You'd never know Puss is sick!

Cleo is now anemic, with a HCT of 21.5. We will be starting her on Procrit (Epogen) injections three times a week. The good news on Cleo is that her BUN is now 47 and her Creatinine is 2.5 — so apparently everything we've been doing has really helped her.

Both cats seem to really like the Select Care, which is a blessing.
