My vet says that we should consider PTS (put to sleep)

The truth is, no one knows how long a CRF cat will live. Some cats will deterioate very quickly, while others can live long, fairly normal lives. Many vets aren't very experienced with CRF, or they don't think their patients want to do what is necessary to care for a CRF cat.

Even cats who are diagnosed with high numbers can sometimes go on to live quite some time.

Listen to your gut. If your instinct is telling you that your cat is not ready to give up the fight, they're not. If your vet doesn't give you any treatment options, then it's time to find a new vet. Until Cleo was diagnosed with CRF, I never realized how difficult it could be to find a good vet.

Find out what your cat's CBC (complete blood count) is; aske to get a copy. Important values are BUN, Creatinine, Phosphorus, Potassium and HCT or PCV. Ask your vet to explain these values to you, and what your options are.
