The
BUN and Creatinine seem so high; I'm scared

Many vets tell their patients the BUN and Creatinine values, and also tell them the normal range. You get scared, because it sounds like your cats' values are terribly high, but the truth is your vet isn't giving you a good reference. The lab my vet uses says the normal BUN range is 15-34; the normal Creatinine range is .8-2.3. Puss was diagnosed with a BUN of 65 and a Creatinine of 4.3, which is really about the middle range I've seen newcomers to the CRF list with similar values who think their cat is in dire trouble. The truth is every cat is different. Some cats are able to tolerate middle levels, such as Puss was diagnosed with, quite well. Cleo was on an IV at the vet with similar values. If the BUN is in the triple digits, and the Creatinine is around 9 or double digits, then IV therapy is recommended. Many cats respond very well to IV fluids, and can go home after a few days. Some cats may not respond.
