My cat won't eat her prescription food |

Many cats diagnosed with CRF are put on a low protein diet, usually Hill's Prescription Diet K/D. Unfortunately, many cats also won't eat K/D. Cleo would at first, but then she turned her nose up at it even if I mixed it with tuna or chicken. It's usually best to transition your cat slowly to is new prescription food. Put in just a tiny amount in her regular food first, and keep it the same amount for a week. Gradually increase the amount. Or try adding a bribe food: baby food, tuna, chicken, liver. The bottom line is that it's important that your cat eat. After all, without eating she's only going to lose more weight and become weaker. If she won't eat whatever food has been prescribed, feed her whatever she will eat. Check out Canned Catfood Analysis and try to pick the food with the lowest phosphorus that your cat will eat. |
