Simba and the chevron socks

I finished my first pair of socks for the Summer of Socks. And I finally got a shot of them with Simba! Notice how they match his coloring?

My tension changed a fair amount from the first to the second sock. I don’t know why. Oddly enough, the second one also has a small bump in the heel turn — I can’t figure that out, either. It’s mildly annoying.

Even on the second sock, stitches kept magically disappearing. Not dropped . . . just suddenly in a pattern of 12 stitches, there’s only be 11. Maybe the bump came when I compensated for one of those times.

They both fit very well, despite the fact that the tension on the ribbing is much tighter on the second sock.

I had thought about starting a new pair before finishing the first pair, but I decided they’d have a better chance of matching if I just did them one after another! Joke’s on me, I guess.

I didn’t really like the yarn that much; I don’t think I’d order it again. Now I have to decide what to knit next. My stash if full of mostly wool . . . but I think I want to knit something I can actually wear now. I was going to try to design a sock with the cotton yarn I have, but I may just have to order more and go ahead and knit some anklets with it.

I also want to try a toe up sock, since the few socks I’ve done so far have been top down. Probably not the next pair, though.
