Hi -- I found this very enjoyable page of yours while working on an article on clicker training cats for my dog training website. Why write about cats on a dog site? I give two reasons in the article. I've linked to this post near the end of the article, which will be posted in the next few days. (Not sure how trackbacks work, maybe you would see the link anyway, but thought I'd let you know.)

Hmm, maybe I can clicker train my tiny street cat Misty to stop terrorizing my Rottweiler Lola! OTOH, I do agree with Misty that it's a good survival mechanism, so maybe I will leave that alone.

Recently, I chucked all that mess and decided that I would get not one but two cats. Not having time, space nor energy for the needs of a dog was no reason to remain without a pet. I went to the humane shelter where I found Scout and Atticus, and I can't tell you how happy I am that I did. They are house- trained (but I'm well aware that there will be hairballs from time to time, and stinky litter pans to clean regularly); they cuddle with me and with each other; they run and chase each other through the...

A cat is a curious animal and you probably all know the phrase: "curiosity killed the cat". Well, a cat can climb every where, and he will probably want to explore every spot in your home.

[...] I started tonight. I’ve done some playing with them and “101 Things to Do With a Box”, as I mentioned in “Getting Animals to Think“. So tonight, I worked with both of them one-on-one. I simply put the carrier down, and clicked and treated them — making sure to put the treats in the carrier — for any interaction with the carrier. [...]

What a harmonious household! My dogs like the chaise too. Finn likes to be where they are, so he's usually draped over the top.

Thanks so much for the cat fence-in link. That could be a possibility. The potential problem is that we have a split rail fence with a wire screen already attached so the dogs can't go through. I'll have to figure out how I could attach the cat fencing on top of that.

Well, I posted this link to the dog forum as well. And the universal reaction was that no dog is too big to be a lap dog. :)
