A Tale of Two Kittens

Simba practices "stay" again. I've been warming up their food in the mornings by placing their dishes in bowls of hot water, so they have to wait a few minutes for it to warm up. Often now Simba will sit and wait for his food — he can usually make it a couple of minutes, but not all five. But there have been a few times when I've been able to give him his food without having to tell him to sit (or having him winding himself around my legs).

We do "gimme five" again. I have to pick up his leg for the first three times, but the next three times he places his paw in my palm without any prompting from me! Lavish praise and treats.

We end the session with a couple of kisses.

Gizmo works on "stay", then we go into "high fives". I kneel and hold my hand up, then I stand and hold my arm down with my palm up. Gizmo has this cold. He's even taken to occasional "gimme fives" around the house, unclicked.

We end with the ball. He is not interested in his ball. This is not what he knows how to do, not how he knows to earn treats.

I roll it to him, and he smacks it with his paw. C/T. It just happens to come straight back to me. So I continue to roll it to him, and he hits it back to me — although it doesn't always go in my direction and he's very tentative about it. It's a good start, though. I've given up on "fetch" for the moment, I think we'll work on a little soccer instead.

We end the session with a few "high fives".
