A Tale of Two Kittens

Brothers: 3 years, 5 months

  Boys cuddling

Gizmo keeps trying to cuddle up with Simba. Simba usually allows it for a few minutes — or a couple of hourse if Giz gets really lucky — but then he always runs him off. But Gizmo keeps trying.

The boys have brought in their usual parade of lizards and snakes this summer. They even managed another bird.

It was Simba, this time, and he had absolutely no intention of giving up his bird. Like the first time, I eventually managed to get him outside with it. The bird looked pretty gone to me.

This time, however, I decided to watch. They played with it for a while, but then it flew away! It had been playing possum. Now I'm pretty sure that that first one must have gotten away, too. Apparently they're not quite sure what to do with it once they've got it, except bring it inside to play with it.

Boys on the bed

I still marvel all the time at how very different they are. Simba loves people. Anyone. He figures it's just more people to worship him.

Gizmo is terrified of strangers, which is basically anyone but mommy and daddy. At least I know if someone were ever to get into their kennel, Gizmo would run inside. I doubt that Simba would.

Gizmo likes to be near his humans. The few times I've been sick and sacked out on the couch, he's laid by me or on top of the couch. He doesn't usually lay there unless we're in the room. Normally he lays in one of his beds or in the carrier.

Simba likes to be near us too, but usually once he's gone to sleep, he'll just stay wherever he is until he wakes up or is woken up by something. He doesn't feel the need to seek us out like Gizmo does.
