Gizmo, also often referred to as Giz, is our little energizer bunny (another nickname). When we first took him in, we thought he was alphacat. After a couple of weeks, he sprained his elbow very badly. Even though no human was around at the time, Gizmo became very timid after that.

Usually it just takes him a little while to warm up to people and new situations. But some people, like my father, really scare him.

Gizmo absolutely loves to play. He can be in a deep sleep, but when I turn the television off at night, he knows it's a possible play opportunity and he runs into the family room, sometimes reaching up to hang onto the pull to the toy drawer.

Gizmo is a good lap cat — when he wants to be. He was the first to lay on me, and he absolutely adores curling up between my knees to sleep at night. He also likes to keep me company on the recliner in the mornings as I watch the news.

Sometimes I call him my Mexican Jumping cat because he's an amazing jumper, when he's in the mood. He's very good at catching balls, but at one year old, he doesn't like to play catch as much as he used to. Gizmo isn't as into heights as his brother Simba.
